News visits Ypres for the Intercontinental Rally Challenge

The Historic Belgian Town of Ypres hosted the 5th Round of the IRC, and was there with Briton Kris Meeke take his third IRC win on the trot.

Before the first day’s stages, Meeke was pleased to accept a Limited Edition Print of his 2009 Peugeot 207 Super2000 car. The Brit was taken back by the quality and detail of the recently completed drawing.

With fellow British driver Guy Wilks in attendance, it was a familiar scene as the cars took to the stages. Wilks stamped his authority on the experienced field from the start, showing up the local drivers who included Francois Duval and Freddy Loix.

Unfortunately, Wilks took an early exit after slipping into a ditch, but Meeke upheld the honours, holding onto second place overnight.

A strong charge from the start of day two saw Meeke continue to put pressure on the leader Loix, until he overtook him halfway through the day. Meeke drove impeccably to eventually take a well deserved victory, before heading back to Rally HQ at the Town Square in Ypres.

Meeke will sit out the next round of the Championship in Russia, whilst Guy Wilks is entered in all of the 5 further rounds.
