Team Rallycards recorded their first Forest Rally finish on the Woodpecker Stages Rally. Driver Gareth Lay and navigator Andy Tomlinson, overcame the rough and dusty conditions to guide their Peugeot 205 GTi to 112th position overall.

The loose surface event was a Round of the National Gravel Championship and was the first time driving on forest roads for Lay and Tomlinson. The event took in 45 miles of some of the fastest roads in England and Wales including the famously fast Radnor Stages which will be next used in the World Rally Championship in November. The entry boasted several former British Rally champions in a range of high specification cars. The dry conditions were wearing on the car and crew, with early suspension problems and issues with heavy dust intake inside the car, making the going tough.

Despite a being hampered by the dust, the crew reached the Ludlow finish to successfully complete their toughest event of the season with a respectable result.

Gareth Lay commented ‘we have achieved our goal of reaching the finish of a National Rally in one piece. The car ran well, and we were pleased with our performance using detailed pace notes for the first time’.

The event was won by National Champion Steve Perez in his Ford Focus World Rally Car.
